Look at the properties of the subform control on your mainform.  Do the Link 
Child Fields and Link Master Fields properties contain values that would link 
the mainform to the subform?  From your description, it sounds as though this 
should be authorid.  I'm not an expert, but this is the first thing I'd check. 
Hope this makes some sort of sense!

OK, I've now got the dropdown lists populated by putting a row 
sourse as a query against the source query for the form, but when I 
select a different author name, the subform does not change.

Do I need some kind of afterupdate code?
