Joe,

What is not working about the code and instructions I gave you earlier?  If something is not working, please describe in detail what is not working.

Look at the big picture.  You say, "I'm trying to do xxx."  I say, "To do that, follow these steps:  xxx."  You ask for clarification about one of the steps.  I provide clarification.  Good so far.  But then you say, "Can you just look at and fix my database?" and send the database in a format I informed you wouldn't work (since I have only Access97).  The communication stopped there (plus you'll learn to do it better if you do it yourself).  I tried to reignite the communication, but have heard nothing back.  To this point, I have yet to hear any specifics on what you're trying and what about it is not working, especially in regards to the steps I gave you.

I'm envisioning a bound form with a combobox at the top to choose a contact, a bound subform right below with contact details that gets populated upon choosing a contact, and the rest of the form below with bound fields for the study data.  The subform should be based on the contact table (or a query of it), and the main form should be based on the studies table (or a query of it).

If this is the case then the steps I gave you should help you set up the combobox and automatically update the record shown in the subform (which you can't change to be uneditable -- set AllowEdits to False under the Data tab on the Subform Properties).

Did the steps I give you not work?  Are they confusing?  Throw me a bone.

Thanks,
Toby

Subject: Re: [AccessDevelopers] Form Not Updating until next record

the contact drop down that i am using is already saved data.  The contact form is seperate from the Study one.  The contact info on the study page is just for reference.  Then the drop down that I have on this page allows to select the contact and then have the info  updated per that dropdown.  Do you think I still should add that saverecord part?

I'm coming in to this discussion late, but one of the things we have done to combat this problem is a do a saverecord before we do anything that requires the saved data.

Good Luck!
