ArtGrid 24 hour observance event: World AIDS Day / A Day Without Art (Video) December 1, 2006
Established by the World Health Organization in 1988, World AIDS Day serves to focus global attention on the devastating impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Observance of this day provides an opportunity for governments, national AIDS programs, arts organizations, churches, community groups and individuals to demonstrate the importance of the fight against HIV/AIDS. With an estimated 39.4 million people worldwide living with HIV at the end of 2004, and more than 20 million people having died of AIDS since 1981, December 1st serves to remind everyone that action makes a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS. To remind the public that AIDS can touch everyone and to inspire positive action, we invite all Access Grid sites, when systems are not in use and you have parked your node in a venue, to send black video or turn off your cameras and send blue video. We hope that this will represent the losses to the arts, sciences and technology communities as a result of HIV/AIDS. If you would like, you can park your AG nodes at the ArtGrid lobby: AGtk-2.4 - https://agvs.chpc.utah.edu:8000/Venues/default AGtk-3.x - https://artgridvs.chpc.utah.edu:8000/Venues/default For more information please contact me. Thank you all for your participation and observance of this day.
