I've done better with using OSS (custom kernel build) on my FC5 A/V box that has an SBLive card in it. ALSA annoys me. The biggest annoyance is constant echo/feedback. Line-in works for me on OSS, I use it to pass through sound from the windows display machine's 'speaker' line. Then I have one set of speakers but if I play something on the windows machine I get the sound through the linux-controlled audio computer.
