Matrox seem to have had a problem with the drivers. The QID card should have been available Oct 03, then it was December, then it was 1Q04, ... I understand that they are now on sale with a reduced range of drivers (in terms of which multi-screen layouts are supported) but it appears that the one most relevant to AG (4 screens laterally abutted, no duplication) now works. There are both AGP (slower) and PCI-X (faster) versions available, the faster card being about £200 ($300 on a good day) more expensive. I think the price you've seen is for the slower card.
I was hoping to have one by now, but the system for which I was going to get one may be going a different route.
