I've got some reproducable strangeness happening
with RAT under WinXP. The Asia Pacific Access
Grid venue is:

      video 233.2.178.9/17018
      audio 233.2.178.9/17008

My RAT under WinXP does not detect external audio
streams unless VIC is running on the same address.
In contrast, a neighbouring W2K box (ie., connected
to the same switch) sees five off-campus audio sources.

The problem is restricted to the XP box in our AG.
That is, RAT works fine from XP machines on a different
subnet.

I can see two likely culprits:

(1) A bizarre setting in the XP firewall
(2) A bug in the way RAT subscribes to multicast groups
combined with a smart switch upstream that is
filtering packets rather than simply broadcasting
across the subnet (we have an HP Procurve 1600M).

We got hammered by this last week when trying to
communicate in the Optiverse venue - where the audio
and video are on separate addresses. No audio.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Cheers,
Darran.
