I don't know if this is needed by any Windows AT today. I believe it is used a little bit by Dasher on UNIX, and perhaps also by GOK on UNIX. This API enables AT to avoid having to inject keystrokes (which was tricky the last time I looked into doing this - for outSPOKEN on Windows a ~17 years ago). It can be useful for international text entry support too (I've had some conversations with internationalization folks at Sun who thought the UNIX/GNOME edition of this API might be nice to use to create Japanese text entry system).

Since applications always work hard to integrate with the clipboard, is IAEditableText needed?
