I understand and that was exactly where my concerns are, too. I don't know if there is a way around it, though. The comparison to aria-live might work and might help find a better solution. Is it possible to have aria-live regions be read out to the end and have the Web page wait until it is finished? If so, that would be the exact same mechanism that we require here.
