load a section in an iframe on the same page you would mark the link
as aria-current. You would not change aria-current to true on a link
in the navigation section once you moved back simply because it
received focus as the current active navigation link is not the

I'm well aware of that. My point is that, according to the text I quoted
from the IA2 spec, the IA2 active state basically maps to
aria-activedescendant *right now*. The IA2 active state in its
*currently documented form* cannot be used for aria-current without
changing the spec, which obviously requires consultation with all
stakeholders. The alternative is to implement a new state.
