Hi, It is true that most publishers these days have an electronic copy of the book. However, they are not very eager to give out this copy because of the fear of pyracy. A very few titles such books on programming and others may be available on a CD which accompanies the book but for other subjects, it is rarely the case. The best thing is to decide on a book that you want to read and try and see if there is an electronic version of it.
Alternatively, you can also subscribe to Recording for the Blind www.rfbd.org in the US and get a lot of academic and professional titles on tape. The joining fee if I remember is around 60 to 70 dollars and the annual fee is 35 dollars. But they have nearly 100000 academic and professional titles. So, it really depends on what you want to read... Generalizing your reading preferences may not help.
