Hi:

My suggestion would be to have both wireless and lan because you never know 
what configuration you will have to adapt to while traveling.  I have both 
on my laptop and use them both all the time.  Also, even though it sounds 
old fashion, make sure you either have a built-in dial-up modem or get a 
modem card you can have with you.  It's amazing how much I still use mine. I 
am using it right this minute
Flash card reader is also important and as many usb ports and possible, or a 
small usb hub you can use.  .
