Dear Fayaz, Atleast till date logging in yahoo mail website is necessary but this can be done automatically if u are already logged in the messenger
Settings in yahoo messenger for this when on yahoo messenger press ctrl+shift+p in general category under "when i am using yahoo! messenger..." 3rd option (i.e. check box) is for "Automatically sign me in when I click a Yahoo! Link in messenger" Hope this is helpful! and NO yahoo messenger does not display email as of for today.
