Blind Persons' Association organised the All Bengal Swimming Competition for the sightless on August 26, 2006 at Rabindra Sarobar, Kolkata with the active cooperation of Anderson Club. The competition was a part of the Diamond Jubilee celebration of Blind Persons' Association. About 60 swimmers representing different blind schools and organisations of the state participated in 50 meter freestyle and backstroke events in different categories. Among these participants were 14 girls. Among the distinguished gests present on the occasion were Mr. Masudur Rahaman Baidya, the English Channel winning swimmer and Mr. Amit Bose, the Vice President of the Indian Life Saving Society. Masudur Rahaman appealed to the school and organisations to take up the challenge for preparing a totally blind swimmer for crossing the English Channel. He assured them of his active help in the preparation. Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission (Blind Boys' Academy) bagged the highest number of prizes. Shri Gouranga Das and Shri Presenjit Adak, both of Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission, Smt. Anura Khatun of Ananda Bhaban Deaf and Blind School, Howrah and Smt.
