Hai Tara:

Absolutely. IF at all we read about some achievers from the US or
Europe, it's because they are unable to feel contended about their
status. They have a burning desire to do something; to make a difference
to their society and community.

While these people emerge in the West mostly in spite of, not because
of, their welfare model, you see such people, especially among the
disabled, almost every day in India and in other developing countries.
The news items posted in AI in recent times would vouch for it.

I believe, only when we are thrown into adversities do we think
innovatively and come out with solution. That way at least, our folks
are street ahead of those in other countries, thanks to the challenges
they face in their environment.

This is not to say that we shouldn't have the same kind of
sophistication those in the West have. Certainly we should, but I feel,
instead of the state doling it out, we should earn them for ourselves. I
am proud of most AI members who have earned not only the technologies
they use, but also the knowhow to use them.

As far as being writers and poets is concerned, well the real genius
can't
wait for state support.
How supportive was the state for Homer, Sur Das, Milton and me? smiles.
(the
last one was a wishful thinking, you can safely remove it.)
