Zune to debut for $250 NEERAJ SAXENA
TIMES INTERNET NETWORK[ FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2006 02:05:51 PM] NEW DELHI: The lid is finally off on when Microsoft's digital media player Zune will debut! The company will be commencing sales of Zune in the US on November 14 for $249.99. However, India may have to wait longer, perhaps until Christmas to lay hands upon Zune. The announced price is identical to the new tag of Apple's iPod 30 GB MP3 player. Microsoft has even priced the song download for 99 cent a piece, the same as Apple's songs downloads through iTunes. What remains to be seen, however, is if the new buyers will warm up to Zune over the tried and tested `Mr Cool' iPod. Microsoft has claimed that its digital media player's new software menu and unique Wi-Fi capability (iPod doesn't have it!) will enable two Zune owners to connect with each other and wirelessly swap the content, including music, pictures and home videos. The device has a three-inch LCD screen (bigger than iPod) that can display videos and pictures in portrait or landscape mode and has a built-in FM tuner also. It will initially be available only in black, white and brown, unlike iPod which is available in several bright colours. Zune is being built by Toshiba. To begin with, there will be only one 30GB version for Zune which will come pre-loaded with a good selection of songs, music videos and film trailers, all installed on the device's hard drive to help consumers start using it immediately.
