Hello Friends Many of us have many questions and curiosities about the linux and the access technology running on Linux. The operating system along with many application programmes on Linux are open source and thus available free of cost to the users. Even the screen reading software like the emacspeak or gnopernicus are available free of cost. The open source way of working makes it more available and customizable for different languages and applications.
To make a serious attempt to understand and learn the installation, operating and understanding the capabilities of Linux based solutions for persons with blindness, National Association for the blind is organizing a two day training session on November 10 - 11, 2006. This training is not supported finantially by any agency thus we cannot offer any stay or transportation support for the participants of this training programme. NAB Delhi would be happy to provide basic infrastructure and food, tea/coffee for all participants of the session. Mr. KrishnaKant has experience in installation of the linux with emacspeak without any seeing assistance and he will be sharing his experience with all the participants. Mr. Arun Mehta will also be taking some sessions in exploring using of emacspeak for basic work processing and document formatting, e-mail, web browsing, calendar, appointments, addressbook etc. We also expect to arrange a lecture by Dr. T.V. Raman who is the developer of the Emacspeak. This lecture will be given using skype to the gathered participants. This training will be more like the cooperative learning programme facilitated by Mr. Arun Mehta and Mr. KrishnaKant and supported by Dr. T.V. Raman and the faculty of NAB Delhi. Thus at this stage persons with extensive experience and knowledge of computer operation, installations and configurations may participate and take benefit of this session. As a result of this programme we would be able to develop more training programmes for non-geeks and beginners. We are looking for about 10 participants to participate in these sessions. Persons who are ready to invest their time in exploring this platform and helping other persons with vision impairment to learn and adopt linux for their needs of computing may please apply for the workshop by filling the attached registration form by November3, 2006. Please sendhte completed registration forms by e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (The registration form is provided immediately after this letter) Although Nab Delhi will not be able to pay for stay or journey, we could certainly provide assistance in arranging the accommodation at the International Youth hostel.
