Mizoram to implement law for disabled

5 December, 2006

The Mizoram government has initiated a move to implement the Persons with
Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation)
Act 1995, providing the three per cent reservation in government jobs for
physically challenged persons.

State Social Welfare department officials have said that an expert committee
had been constituted to look into the matter and the committee members would
soon submit their report with specific recommendations.

According to social welfare minister R Tlanghmingthanga, the state had been
very considerate towards the disabled so far the government jobs are concerned.

"We have constituted a sub-committee, who has already completed identification
task of jobs for the disabled ones," he added.
