Rs. 1,546.62 crore awarded so far for Bhopal Gas Victims 04 December, 2006
An amount of Rs. 1,546.62 crore has been awarded to 5,74,273 claimants of the Bhopal Gas Leak Disaster as on October 31, 2006. Besides, in compliance with the orders of the Supreme Court dated July 19, 2004 and October 26, 2004, an amount of Rs. 1,494.29 crore has been disbursed among 5,57,927 claimants as pro-rata compensation on 1:1 basis, till October 31, 2006. The disbursal process is still continuing on the directions of the Supreme Court. There is no delay of the claim cases. This information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers Shri B.K. Handique in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today. BV.
