Oracle bullish on mobile TV, broadband in India

Software major Oracle has said it foresees tremendous opportunities in the
sphere of communication, mobile TV and broadband in India that would form part
of its focus area for the country.

The company has started negotiations for development of software for various
companies in these areas, Bhaskar Gorti, senior vice-president and general
manager at Oracle's Communications global business unit, said.

He said communication, mobile TV and broadband segment were set to witness high
growth in the coming years, which could be seen by the way existing telecom
service providers like BSNL, MTNL and Bharti were converging telephony and
broadband services.

"Oracle's service delivery platform creates a platform for design, development,
deployment and management of services that lie at the heart of IT and network
convergence. The services Oracle provides include simple messaging, rich
multimedia and next generation services such as Virtual PBX, IPTV and fixed
mobile
convergence," Gorti said.

He said the Oracle platform gave operators the ability to accelerate service
innovation, consolidate application silos for reduced costs and leverage widely
adopted IT practices. "We are negotiating with leading telecom service
providers for application service", Gorti said.
