There is another easier way.

1. Press control+T and then O - to get to the options.

2. Press control+tab until you hear "send tab".

3. Navigate to the button called "Text settings button" and press the space 
bar.

4. Uncheck the check box that says: "Intent the original message while 
replying" and click Okay.

That's it and you should be good to go. You will not see the > sign while 
replying to messages here after.
