High,

I suspect that your external DSL modem is not on a UPS.  It must be on a UPS and
so shall be your computer.

  I too am experiencing the same problem, with the same connectivity and
windows. However, in my case it generally happens when electricity goes off, and
my computer is on. The computer says that "Local area
connection: A network cable is unplugged." After that, when I turn off the
computer, and the next time I try to use the internet, it says "The page cannot
be displayed" etc. Now, I switch off the modem and on it, and, the problem
solves. Not sure, but it is my conjecture that this problem is due to the
external modem, which is not designed for the hiatus power supply of
electricity.
