Quota for disabled: SC notices to Centre, AIIMS, MCI

The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Centre and AIIMS Director among 
others on a petition seeking reservation for handicapped students in 
post-graduate
courses in the country's premier medical institute.

A bench, comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishanan and Mr Justice R V 
Ravindran, issued notices to the Centre, Tamil Nadu, Director AIIMS and the 
Medical
Council of India(MCI).

The apex court was hearing the petition filed by S Hariprasad and S 
Thanigainathan, seeking provision of reservation for handicapped students in 
the all
India quota.

Earlier, the counsel for the petitioners contended before the court that all 
educational institutions should reserve seats for disabled persons.
