Dear Sanjay:

I had used headphones at workplace for more than three years and am a
victim of hearing problems. Though doctors say my hearing is good after
audometric tests, I feel a sort of intolerance to sound and this has
made me dispense with the headphones now. I use low-volume and work with
speakers on the computer.

I think it depends on the duration and the intensity of your listening.
If you listen for long hours like me and have to listen intensely, I
think the possibility of you harming your ears are more. On the other
hand, if you use it sparingly may be for a hour or two and for casual
listening, I think it should be fine.

Hi friends,
most of us listen audiobooks, podcasts etc. through headphones or
earphones. My concern is, does this type of listening is likely to harm
our sense of hearing? Is there any criteria of ideal listening such as
volume, duration and so on? I am drawing your attention because for us
totally blind people, our ears are the most powerful sensory tools.
Please throw some light on it and share your views.
Your friend,
SANJAY PRASAD
