I know for sure that athletes like Malathi Holla, a woman on a wheelchair has won medals at the Paralympics
On another note, the PCI has always been corrupt. The people who launched the PCI in India had very close political patronage. In fact the Govt and the PCI nexus has come in the way as stumbling blocks to the promotion of Blind Cricket, Blind athletics, Blind Chess and so on. The Govt has been insisting that any disability sport if needs Govt recognition should be members of the Paralympics. By 2002, I was for over a decade involved in organising several domestic blind cricket tournaments at State, Zonal and National levels, two World Cups and still the Govt refused to entertain applications for recognition. All patronage was for the PCI. At that time the PCI did not have any track record. It was a small NGO based in Bangalore and most the PCI athletes who participated in Paralympic Games were mainly from Bangalore. We were told to become members of PCI. I refused because I did not agree with the ethics on which the PCI was being run and further cricket was not a Paralympic sport. -----Original Message----- From: AccessIndia [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Divyanshu Ganatra Sent: 31 August 2015 17:42 To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerning the disabled.
