I use a mac book with voice over and also run windows 7 with jaws and NVDA
using parallels on the same machine.
At this point in time, the windows screen readers are significantly easier
to use and more versatile as compared to voice over IMHO.
I am a software engineer and use both windows and mac heavily for
browsing, mail, presentations, excel, and software development. Your needs
may be different and you may find one or the other better for personal
preference.
Keep in mind that there is a relatively steep learning curve for voice
over when you switch from windows to mac, so, you may find it a bit extra
difficult to begin with.
Having said this, voice over is much better suited for touch screen
devices like an ipad. So, if you plan to buy a touch pc like the surface
pro for any reason, a mac will be a better option.

Manish

Subject: [AI] Is it worth switching to Mac from Windows as a visually
impaired user?
Hi all,
My computer and jaws version is too old and needs to be replaced. I've
been a windows with jaws user up till now.
I was wondering is it worth switching over to the Mac n tosh OS with
voice over.
Is anybody using the Mac book or iMac on this list?
Could you please share your experience from the accessibility point of
view.
Is it worth making the switch taking into consideration the stability of
Mac computers and that the screen reader comes right out of the box unlike
Jaws that has to be purchased separately?
Please help me to make an informed decision,
Appreciate all your valuable inputs,
Many thanks in advance,
Kind regards,
Rishi.
