Dear friends, Around 65 crore people in the world living with disabilities - about 10 per cent of the world's population - lack the opportunities of the mainstream population. They face many a physical and social obstacles that prevent them from receiving equal access to education, jobs as per their qualifications, accessing information, proper health care, and are generally looked down in the society. To protect and promote the human rights of women, children, refugees, who have been many a places not been treated equally, international conventions are in place. Similarly recently United Nations has adopted a Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which India signed it on the first day of its opening for signatures i.e. 30th March 2007.
