Everyone has a desire for love and a fear of rejection, so also a disabled has. But the society never understands our feelings. Through movie The Desire, it is an attempt to make people understand the feelings of a disabled person for love. Like any other human beings, the disabled persons have a feeling for emotions and desire for love; it is now time for the society to recognise and respect this reality,” expressed quadriplegic (disable by four limbs) Jitendra Ku Biswal, who is as a protagonist acting in the movie.
Talking about the movie ‘The Desire’ with tag line, ‘love, sex and disability,’ Biswal says, “The 30-minute storyline is a conversation between a disabled person and a celebrity model where the disabled person expresses the inner desire of every stage of his life. In the teenage, early 20s, 30s and 40s a disabled person has equal feelings towards his love and emotions, but it always ends up with disappointment and rejection. Primary component of any relationship is love, commitment, care and loyalty and I believe all these things are not difficult for a disabled person to give to his or her beloved one”. The motto behind making this film is to create awareness among the mass about the feelings of a disabled person. There are many other mediums where he could have put forth this issue to create awareness but he says he found film to be the best medium to reach the intellectual mass and create awareness. “Though earlier movies like Gujarish and Margaretta with a Straw went to floor with same concept but in this movie a disabled person is acting and sharing his feelings, which will definitely touch the heart of viewers. It is an effort to reach mass and make them aware about the issue,” said wheel-chair bound Biswal. Elaborating about his love and relationship, he said, “Though I am in love with a woman for nearly 15 years but due to fear of society her parents are not accepting me as their son-in-law. Even though I am a wheel-chair bound person, but I have overcome this on my own way. People go everywhere by walking whereas I go on wheel chair. I am also earning and able to run a family, so why people judge a person for hisdisability,” asked the 43-year-old Jitendra, who is also fighting for the rights of differently-abled persons in the society. In The Desire, Jitendra is sharing screen with model-turned-actress Swapna Pati. The film is directed by Mumbai-based Odia film maker Abinash Nanda. “When I conceived the idea for the short film, I had no money for the shooting. But I discussed with entrepreneurs like Rajinder Singh Bhatia and Rajesh Mohanty. They liked the concept and agreed to fund the film,” expressed Biswal. The shooting of the film has been finished and after its post-production work, soon it will be ready for entry in festivals. “Through film festivals we will reach out to a greater mass,” Biswal asserted, who too has penned the script. Earlier Biswal’s five-minute motivational film My Attitude, My Life...Despite My Disability, was released on YouTube in June and viewed by more than 10,000 viewers. The film also was praised by many well- known personalities like Rajdeep Sardesai, Barkha Dutt, Shashi Tharoor, Nagesh Kukunoor and Twinkle Khanna.
