Ram Naik assures Gehlot of land for rehab and skill training centre
for disabled
GOVERNOR RAM Naik on Tuesday assured Union Minister for Social Justice
and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot that land would be arranged for
setting up an integrated rehabilitation centre in the state for
differently abled people.

Naik made the assurance after Gehlot said some states have already
provided land for the centre and the Union government will provide
fund for the project if UP provides land free of cost. The minister
added the Centre has decided to establish an integrated rehabilitation
centre in every state to provide medical help and skill development
training to differently-abled people and make them self-dependent.

Gehlot was the chief guest at a camp to distribute free aid and
appliances to the differently-abled, organised by Bhaurao Devras Nyas,
in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Social Justice and
Empowerment and Kanpur’s Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of
India. The Governor presided over the programme. Lucknow Mayor Dinesh
Sharma and RSS Sah Sarkaryavah Krishna Gopal were also present at the
event.

The Centre has organised 350 such distribution camps in the last one
year, claimed Gehlot.

Without naming anyone, he added: “Such camps had not been organised in
the past… Officials and their staff had distributed aid through some
organisations and institutions without maintaining any transparency….
Distribution of aid through camps maintain transparency and also helps
in getting feedback and suggestions from the public.”

The minister also announced that the Centre has decided to come up
with a law to ensure that differently-abled people must receive
benefits of all welfare schemes. “A bill in this regard will be tabled
in the upcoming Budget Session of the Parliament,” he said, adding
that the Centre has decided to provide universal identity cards to all
differently-abled people across the country in the next one-and-a-h
