Dear Amar, On our website we have created a page to communicate with restaurant owners. We would like restaurants to either themselves create an account on Good Food Talks and type out their menu or collaborate with us to maintain their menu. Creating an account and typing out the menu is not difficult or time-taking. When the restaurant revises its menu, it can log in and make those small changes.
I would ideally like NGOs and volunteer groups around the country to take up this task. I am sure that many NGOs get volunteers who can do simple computer based work. And this work can even be done from their home or workplace. To give you an idea, two ladies in Delhi have uploaded 200 menus in about 45 days' time. And in Bangalore and Mumbai just one or two volunteers have done the uploading of 100 menus in less than a month. In UK, restaurants are told that the disabled are a big market and they pay to get their menu included in such a website. In India, the disabled are not perceived as a market as yet and so, we will have to find other sources. Also, in Delhi I hope to get some funding for the coming financial year. Even if I could get salary of a part-time data entry operator, I can maintain hundreds of menus. Other NGOs may ask for similar funding and maintain their menus. Ultimately, we would like the mainstream apps to be accessible and easy to use. But in a country like us, I think it will be quite some time before that happens. And when it happens, I will be most happy as I will get more time to relax. <smile> Please do checkout these pages, text also copied below. http://goodfoodtalks.in/restaurant-owners/ http://goodfoodtalks.in/login/ many thanks, Prashant -----Original Message----- From: AccessIndia [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Amar Jain Sent: 28 January 2016 14:56 To: accessindia Subject: Re: [AI] Announcing the launch of Accessible Menu reading app - Good Food Talk Sensible and much needed work has begun Prashant sir. Glad that you had that thought. Would you have something to share which we can take to the management level of restaurants and get them involved? My primary concern is that how do updates get incorporated in the menus? What level of economics is involved in implementing something of this kind for a restaurant owner? As much details as possible will be helpful. Regards, -- Amar Jain.
