Various tools help in contacting anyone from anywhere on the net, almost for
free

This edition of NetSpeak discusses the latest developments in the messaging
services realm.

The availability of a plethora of communication tools has helped us contact
anyone from anywhere on the net - almost for free. As we all know, Instant
messenger
(IM) is one of the popular communication tools. From being just a text
messaging tool, IM technology has evolved quite a bit. Apart from sending text
messages,
the current IM services let us transfer files, conduct voice chats, audio/video
conferences and so on.

However, the IM technology is not resting on its laurels. As can be seen from
the features available with new products such as Yuuguu (http://yuuguu.com/),
it continues to evolve.

Distinct advantage

In addition to the features generally available with popular services such as
MSN, AIM, Skype and gTalk, YuuGuu has some innovative tools. The distinct
advantage of YuuGuu lies in its facility to share your desktop with other
contacts.

After downloading and registering an account with the service, add your
friends/clients (as you usually do with other IM services). Whenever your
clients
are online you will get an indication of their presence. To show your desktop
to a contact, right-click on the name of the contact and select the option
'Show'. Now, if this buddy is willing to view your desktop, she can 'Accept'
your request. And, in case your client wants to take control of your desktop,
she can seek your permission.

Once the control is given to your client, she can do anything she desires with
your machine - as long as you allow her. She can do such tasks as navigating
the web with your browser, run applications available on your machine and so
on. The upshot is that YuuGuu could be useful in trouble shooting, co-browsing,
teaching and accomplishing other collaborative tasks. Of course, unless you
have a high-speed link such features are of little use.
