13 June is marked worldwide as the International Albinism Awareness Day, a day to create awareness about, and end discrimination towards people with, albinism.
Albinism is a rare, non-contagious and genetically inherited condition. The condition is found in both males and females. It results in a lack of pigmentation in the hair, skin and eyes, causing vulnerability to the sun and bright light. As a result, almost all people with albinism have low vision and are vulnerable to getting skin cancer. Instances of discrimination against albinos are reported widely especially from Africa where their body parts are sold. http://www.un.org/en/events/albinismday/background.shtml www.albinism.org/ www.albinismday.com/ Source: http://newzhook.com/newzhook_read.php Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ To unsubscribe send a message to [email protected] with the subject unsubscribe.
