Mittal has been elected as the Secretary General of the World BlindUnion, the sole representative global organization of the visually impaired. Itis the first time in the history of the visual impairment sector that a personfrom ABU region has been elected to this high and prestigious Office. As most of you may be aware, Mr. Mittal is an illustriousicon of the blindness sector nationally as well as globally. His contributionduring last 47 years of work in this sector through multiple engagements hasbeen recognized both in India and abroad. Besides being one of the founders ofAICB and its President since 2007, Mr. Mittal has served as the RegionalDirector, National Institute for the Visually Handicapped and also, as theDirector, NIVH. He has also been associated with the Blind Relief Associationin various ways. Mr. Mittal has significantly contributed to the formulation ofvarious Government policies by being on many committees. Since 2008, he hasbeen the Treasurer, World Blind Union, again, the first from ABU region to beelected to that Office. The election of Mr. Mittal is a matter of pride for theentire visual impairment sector of the country.
