The marriage procession reached the bride’s home in Digoda village, where the ceremony was performed. According to locals, Shalini has been reading religious scriptures such as Ramayana, Bhagwat Geeta and playing musical instruments since childhood. The villagers pay a lot of respect to the woman, as they believe she possesses some supernatural power. Shalini’s father Munnalal Bidua, a teacher, told HT that he has two sons and two daughters. Shalini is visually challenged since birth. She expressed her desire to marry ‘Lord Krishna’ recently. The parents didn’t disappoint her and consulted a priest to fulfil the desire of their daughter. The marriage was scheduled for December 4, as according to Hindu calendar it happens to be ‘Vivah Panchmi’. On Saturday, the marriage rituals like menhdi and sangeet were held. On Sunday, the marriage procession (baraat) was taken out from a temple with Lord Krishna’s Laddu Gopal form as the bridegroom. After the marriage, the bride has plans to continue living at her present home, where she has a separate room converted into a temple. -- Avinash Shahi Doctoral student at Centre for Law and Governance JNU Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ To unsubscribe send a message to [email protected] with the subject unsubscribe.
