Dear Friend Effective techniques of independently having a buffet in social events
Few of the techniques I follow are: I feel attending conferences, seminars with unknown person is the best aspect to know and improve my own networking and socialising skills. It gives me more confidence and also enhances my independence. While I register for a conference, where I don't know anyone, I make sure to inform one of the person incharge of registering, about my disability and requirement of little assistance. I keep a note of the person's name and contact number. After reaching the venue, I make sure to meet the person with whom I interacted while registering. In the first few minutes of our discussion I inform the concern person that I will need assistance during the breakfast, lunch time to serve for myself. 99% the assistance is always made available. While it's time to serve food, I either ask my escort to take me around along with her / him and I hold the plate, escort can serve easily and I can choose what I wish. If escort does not seem too comfortable, I ask to read the menu and choose from it. Few points I learnt over a period one need to know clearly what he / she need. Clear instructions should be given with politeness and a pleasant smile. Always connect with the person by asking their name. Call for food only that helps to fill your stomach and not over eat. Make sure you don't ask the escort to run around again and again to get various stuff for you. Lastly acknowledge their support with gratitude. For me the same thing works in a social gathering too. I approach the person sitting next to me and gently enquire if he / she is heading for food and will be comfortable if I walk along with my plate. If that person does not seem comfortable, I approach someone else. Without feeling offended or negative about the former. I hope this of some help to you. If you need any further information, feel free to call me. Best Regards, Sushmeetha B. Subject: Re: [AI] (AI) Effective techniques of independently having a buffet in social events Hi, In seminars, there's generally a counter to collect coupons, Best strategy is to ask them to send someone to assist you rather than depending on your coleagues who might judge you if they are meeting you for the first time.
