Guwahati, March 30: The All Assam Blind Students' Union today urged
chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and education minister Himanta Biswa
Sarma to allow visually impaired students to take the teacher
eligibility test (TET).

In a memorandum to the chief minister and education minister, the
union also demanded reservation in government service for people who
had 100 per cent blindness and to increase the unemployment stipend
for visually impaired students from the current Rs 6,000. The union
also asked the authorities to arrest the president of the Disabled
Protection Committee, Paramananda Rai, who was allegedly trying to
allot the land of the blind school at Basistha to build a guesthouse.

The union said it will not allow a single inch of the school land to
be used for other purposes.
