 Udaan — a school for differently abled children — was started by the
Army in April 2010 at Drugmulla in the frontier district of Kupwara,
which has over 39,000 differently abled persons.
 The basic social infrastructure and an institutionalised mechanism
for their rehabilitation and uplift were lacking, said Army in a
statement issued here. To ameliorate the suffering of “this section of
society who remain neglected and lead a pitiful life”, Udaan School
was conceived as a school and rehabilitation centre for these
children.
 The Army says the school endeavours to impart training to the
students to help them cope up with their daily activities and further
enhance their physical and mental abilities.
 The Army says the school had added a physiotherapy lab, which houses
equipment, Braille machine and audiometer to assist the children with
various disabilities.
 The school also organises the counselling of parents, recreation
