Chat Transcript Begins Here -------------------------------------------------------------- Hello Vetrivel. Welcome to HP Total Care for Compaq Presario Products. My name is Melvin. How may I help you today? I have a problem with my CD files. May I know the problem in detail? Sure. Some of the files that created with my XP system are not recognized by Vista. But they work well with XP system. The folder appears empty. May I know what are the types of files you are referring to? They are mp3 files. Just to confirm,is the cista notebook is working fine with any other cd's,is the problem only with these particular cd's? That's correct. Even in those CDS I can see well some folders. But they are fine with XP systems at my school. Okay. One more thing: I also tried copying those files through my flash disk and trhe same problem persist. Cetrieval, have you checked wether those files are hidden ? No they are fine. Since they work well with XP and I don't even have administrative status there. And I checked them. But how can files written in CDS be hidden? Moreover the folder shows 0 bites under property. I mean after being copied to my compact. Vetrivel,to isolathete isue Irecommend you to checkthe cd in any other cista system, and may ikn ow how did you buen the cd,is it burned as a data cd or audio cd? No it was burnt as a data CD. And it shows the correct alocation when I check the CD property. I mean empty space and so on. Okay. Try to bresethe cd throgh the media player and see ifthe mp3 files are visivle or not. Not in my vista computer. But they can be played in the XP computers. It is asking me to format the CD. I mean with media player. So what does it mean? Vetrivel, just to confirm I recommend you to checkithe disk in any other system other than the 2 systems you have mentioned The problem might be due to any virus. No I have checked them with at least three other XP systems. But have symantic products installed in my system and they are up to date. The issue you are facing is unique. I recommend you to burn the same mp3 files on a different disk at slow speed. Exactly! I used at least three opperating systems before and never faced this issue. And the problem doesn't seem to be the ahrdware one. You mean with XP? And what should be the speed? Yes,please try it and see if the problem persists or not. So does it mean that my old CDS will not work with this? Vetrivel, check the old cd's and see ifthe files are shown, this will isoaltethe issue wether the problem is with the cd itself or not. Okay. And it means that you guise don't have any patch available in addresssing this issue. And what should be the writing speed? Iam afraid there are no patch avaialble fro this issue. To isoaltethe issue i recommend you to check with different disks burnt on the system which is having XP. Try burning the cd in 4X speed. Does it make any difference? And why in that particular speed? This is just to isolatethe issue. Please try to open different cds written using the Xp system you are referring to in the vista system and see if they are working fine or not. Yes indeed! Fortunately most of them are working fine. But the puzzle is that why only some CDS have this problem? As all the other cds are working fine, the problem might be with the cd itself. This is a unique problem,Iam afraid we don't have any patches avaialble for issue like this. That's understood. But I would like you guise to look in to this issue seriously in future updates. But why do they work well with XP? Try to write the cd with a different speed and see ifthe problem persists or not and then get back to us with the result for further troubleshooting. Okay. Vetrivel,Thepatches for vista are releasesd BY Microsoft corporation. There hasn't been any patch released so far relating this particular issue. That's correct. But they directed me to my product manifacturor when I contacted them about this issue. Vetrivel,as other cds are working fine, the problem might not be with the hardware of the notebook. That's understood. But the hardware needs to interact with software properly right? Vetrivel, let me explain this toyou. As other cds are working fine, the problem migjt not be with the software or either with the hard ware. The problem might be with the cd itself. We don't have any previous records of customers reporting this type of issue.I will excalatethe issue tothe HP Engineering department. Okay. That would be great. If any fix is made avaaialble by them ,i will mail it to you to your mail ID. Is there anything else I can help you with today? That's great. I think that's really it.
