If you know all the contractions and abbreviations, you need only practice. You may read Standard English Braille for learning all rules of Braille writing. It is available from BBA, Narendrapur. You may contact them on

Subject: [AI] Improving braille proficiency

Hi Everyone,

Even though I am blind since birth, I started learning braille only in my 20s when I began to realize its multiple practical benefits. I have now gotten to a point where I have a fairly good grasp of contractions and can read one page in around 20-25 minutes. While I know that reading more is the key to getting better, I was wondering if others could suggest any other methods that can be deployed my braille proficiency.

I'd particularly like to know how I can integrate it into my daily life so that it becomes second nature to me and I do not lose touch even when I am unable to practice it owing to other commitments. I also have the Orbit Reader.

Best,
Rahul
