Dear John, While it is certainly a good idea to intimate the service provider in advance, per my recent experiences it is not mandatory. I have been flying independently since the past 5 years. Support of the airline staff has improved dramatically. Just when you reach the airport entrance, request the security person to call someone from Spice Jet. Once the Spice Jet executive arrives, your game is sorted. Just a caution: Be alert of the flight announcements etc. Don't completely rely on the airline staff.
