Dear Friends, In the background of the increasing number of sexual assaults on girls/women with disabilities being reported in the recent past, the National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) is organizing a national convention on this issue. The convention would be held on November 25 (Sunday) and the venue would be on the lawns of 36, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla Marg, New Delhi. The timings would be from 9.30 a.m to 4.00 p.m. We propose to broadly divide the sessions as follows: 1. Plenary – to give an introduction to the agenda 2. On Provisions of Various laws governing sexual assaults 3. Survivors/caregivers speak 4. Disability organisations on experience in handling such cases 5. Women’s Organisations – on how they propose to take this on to their agenda and mainstream issues concerning disabled women Representatives from various mainstream women’s organisations disability rights organisations as well as legal experts would be speaking at the convention. In attendance would be participants from various states. We would be happy if you could participate.
