Dear friends on the AccessIndia list,

Hope you are doing well.

I, as promised earlier, on behalf of Indian Blind Sports Association,
extend a warm invitation to you and your friends, for participating in
the very first three-day sound ball tennis workshop scheduled to be
organised from 19th February 2019 in the city of Mumbai. This workshop
is absolutely free, with decent arrangements for lunch and high tea at
the courts of Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association campus at
Colaba, Mumbai.
Please note that we’re unable to provide accommodation. Thus, it would
be most feasible for folks in and around Mumbai.

Background:

Upon returning from London, I introduced soundball tennis in Mumbai in
September 2016 and as stunning it may sound, soundball lawn tennis is
being played by about 12,000 visually impaired men and women around
the world. A sight of an airborne jingling sound ball being hit
accurately by a totally blind person is a sight to behold. The rallies
are not very long but when they occur, they are awe-inspiring. The
competitive tournaments of soundball tennis are played under the aegis
of International Blind Tennis Association (IBTA) which regulates sound
ball tennis in its 18 member countries. Have a look at our Mumbai
practice sessions and official website of IBTA:

I hold the position of Head Finance (probono) with IBTA and have been
identified as the lead for the proposed event by the Indian Blind
Sports Association, Delhi (IBSA), as you might know, a premier body
for organising blind sports in India-

We have invited well-established coaches Mr. Simon McFarland and Dr.
Davinder Kapur from Windsor Lawn Tennis Club Belfast, United Kingdom
to conduct the aforesaid training. Simon is a level 2(ITF Advanced)
Lawn Tennis Coach and Squash Director at Windsor Lawn Tennis Club in
Belfast. He is accompanied by celebrated doctor Davinder Kapur, a
recipient of the MBE (MOST EXCELLENT ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE) for
his outstanding services to Medicine and Charity. He’s also associated
with other charitable organisations in India.
