Dear all,

I am a user of a white cane since 6 years. I am not much into the
advanced canes that are coming up in the market these days. Although
the white cane perfectly fits my need, one problem i have is the the
elasticity of the chord wears out. This is not the chord that runs
from within the cane, but the one with which one holds the cane
together after it's folded and also wear it around their wrist while
they are walking. after few months, the wornout chord sometimes can
get tangled with the cane foldings and that makes it difficult to open
it. so i came up with an idea of using velcro instead of the chord. I
took help from a designer to fix one end of the velcro tape to the
cane using a nut and a bolt. the other end of the tape can be
fastened as per our use (holding the cane while it's folded and
wearing it around our wrist). The length of the tape could
approximately be 25 cm. It seems the life span of nylon velcro is
10,000 times, so if i use my cane on an average of 20 times per day,
it will come up to 7500 times per year. Right now, i am testing it
out to see how durable and long lasting it will be.
I am writing this mail to know if anyone of you face the same problem
with the chord or not. how do you manage if the chord wears out? and
what do you think of the velcro tag. I will be curious to know your
opinion.

With regards,
Aishwarya.
