Hi all,

PL note that all EVMs' original design has 16 buttons and 16 braille
embosed numerals on right hand side corner. So only two options available
for ECI, either to stick braille stickers on braille embossed numerals or
change the serial numbers in the braille candidate sheet to match EVM
embossed braille numerals.

Earlier they were sticking braille stickers on EVM Braille numerals to
match the serial numbers of sighted candidate list. However sticking a
braille sticker on top of braille EVM numeral always created tactile
confusion, unable to identify the number properly from the second EVM
onwards and hence VI groups in Chennai proposed this method. It was also
proposed by VI groups who attended the national Consultation on accessible
Elections in July 2018 in Delhi and hence such a revised order was issued
by ECI with regard to EVM braille numerals.

Day by day new parties are coming and independent candidates are also on
the rise and so here after every booth may need to have more than one or
two EVMs. Given the case this seems to be a feasible solution instead of
sticking braille stickers with running numbers from 17 to what ever final
number of candidates on the braille embosed numerals of EVMs.

We can always cross verify the candidate list and it's numbers from ECI
website and mobile apps. If we can do a small homework on our candidates
list before going to polling booth, it will be much helpful to ourselves,
irrespective of our disabilities.

Regards
Smitha
