The report was released in Mumbai recently. Geometry is often considered out of reach for students with blindness and low vision as it is assumed to be a purely visual subject. However, what our eyes study in shapes is accessible to touch as well. Keeping this in mind, several tactile accessible geometry construction tools have been developed and used over the years worldwide. We interacted with students and teachers across Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Delhi as part of our field research for this study. We found that most geometry tools were ‘adapted’ by teachers locally. There were no clear-cut universal guidelines for accessible geometry construction kits. All tool sets could not accomplish all tasks and a complete geometry construction kit was oftentimes missing. This made it impossible for a visually impaired student to perform all elements of geometry construction. Two years ago, the XRCVC team decided to carry out a systematic investigation of the subject. The current report is a culmination of this ambitious idea. We hope that it will be useful to anyone interested in working with or designing universally accessible geometry construction kits for all students, including those with blindness and low vision.
