Business Titan signs MoU with Shankara Nethralaya Chennai (PTI): City-based eye care hospital Sankara Nethralaya on Friday signed an MoU with Titan Industries Ltd for providing training in ophthalmic dispensing and optometry at the institute to be set up by the company's optical store-chain, 'Titan Eye'. Bhaskar Bhat, Managing Director of Titan Industries, told reporters that the company would set up a modern training centre at Hosur with regular classrooms and labs with latest equipment. Optometrists from Sankara Nethralaya would travel to Hosur to train the students. The objective of the programme is to develop trained hands in scientific ophthalmic dispensing and optometry. As part of the MoU, optometrists, style consultants and technicians at the Titan Eye stores would be trained by professionals from the hospital. The training programme, which would range from six to 12 weeks, would commence on February 1, 2008 and will have four batches annually producing approximately 700 trained and certified professionals. Titan plans to set up 250 'Titan Eye' stores across the country by next year. Dr S Badrinath, Chairman Emeritus, Sankara Nethralaya, said refractive errors was one of the six causes for blindness in developing countries.
