The centre houses both children and elderly persons with intellectual disabilities. Alarmed by the increasing number of coronavirus cases in M-East Ward, the BMC on July 24 had organised a testing camp at the facility. The M-East assistant municipal commissioner SM Dwivedi said 268 out of 700 inmates were screened. Later, out of 54 swabs, 30 returned positive, of which 25 were men (in the age group of 13 to 70) and five girls and elderly women. Three symptomatic positive inmates (of which two are patients of tuberculosis) were shifted to Sion Hospital, Dwivedi said. He said that the rest were shifted to BKC jumbo facility but the BMC officers are finding it very difficult to communicate with them. Mansi Sawant, who heads the Mankhurd facility, refused to comment on the situation. -- Disclaimer: 1.
