On December 9 , a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipankar Datta heard a petition by Rugweda Deshmukh (18) who has a disability certificate from the Medical Authority in Solapur, which certified her with 48% disability. She was referred to Grant Medical College (JJ Hospital group) and certified with 19% hearing impairment and disqualified for admission. She moved high court saying a second disability assessment had to be urgently done as her admission may be cancelled. The judges noted for a disability of the nature of the petitioner, the closest institution is Goa Medical College at Bambolim, Goa. "In the meantime, the respondents are directed not to cancel the admission of the petitioner and in the event if it is so cancelled, the respondents shall not fill up the vacancy by admitting any other candidate,'' they added, posting the matter on December 14.
