Every person was expected to wear mask, maintain social distance and avoid human touch to
control spread of Covid. The persons with visual impairment found it difficult to avail
voluntary support of other people while seeking help to cross road or negotiate a busy
street. The people were reluctant to extend their arm to assist such persons as human guides
or hold their white cane to avoid human touch. The ICEVI West Asia and BPA took up the
challenge of modifying mobility cane technique as well as human guide technique which could
enable persons with visual impairment avail voluntary services of public while maintain
social distance and avoiding human touch completely. Both these techniques have been
developed after seeking comments and feedback of a large number of persons around the world
by creating a WhatsApp Group known as "Covid & Mobility of Blind". Thanks to
all those persons who participated in discussion on this group.
Now, ICEVI WA and BPA wish to demonstrate these techniques to Mobility Instructors,
Special Educators, CBR Master Trainers, persons with visual impairment and the parents.
The techniques shall be further refined based upon the feedback of participants. Mr
Rajendra KR, International Disability and Development Consultant , Innovative
Development Transformations has consented provide his Opening Remarks on this
initiative. Dr B K Panchal, as accomplished Master Trainer of O & M shall
demonstrate both the techniques. We expect number of other O&M expert to join us in
this webinar.
We invite all persons who are interested in teaching, promotion and use of
mobility techniques to join us in this webinar. We shall limit participation to
500 persons on first come first basis. You are most welcome to complete your
registration formalities at your earliest convenience and oblige.
