Dear All, These days when domestic help is not available, many would be feeling the need for assistance in cleaning the house.
I purchased the <https://www.amazon.in/Forbes-Robotic-Cleaner-Sanitization-Eureka/dp/B08KGRP GR7/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=forbes+robovac+n+mop&qid=1621076774&sr=8-3> Eureka Forbes Robo Vac N Mop Robotic Vacuum Cleaner with UV Sanitization from Eureka Forbes (Black) at a cost of Rs. 20 k from amazon. These robotic vacuum cleaners promise to move around the home on their own and clean it. Many brands are available. However I believe most of them are similar in terms of technology. I purchase the model from Eureka Forbes since they have a established after sales network in the country. Below I am sharing my experience and assessment of its usefulness for a visually impaired. First accessibility of operating these robot is limited. I purchased the model which has a physical remote hoping that accessibility of the mobile apps will not come in the way. To some extent this has proved to be right although it is not possible to use all functions independently since the remote also has a LCD screen which the visually impaired will not be able to read. One positive point is that the robot gives all feedback by playing audio prompts which the visually impaired can also use. For example, if it gets stuck somewhere or has low battery or charging has started then you will hear it say so. Starting and stopping the machine is not a problem. Cleaning its dust bin and mopping device is also accessible. For a blind person it is not possible to determine if the robot actually covered the whole floor or skipped certain areas/corners. However, if you remove all obstacles from the floor properly such as chairs etc. with time it will cover the whole floor of the house. I think the mopping function is not that effective. I clean the mopping cloth manually after it completes one room to improve its effectiveness. In terms of picking up the dirt from the floor I think it does a good job. Note that it will not clean rigid dirty spots on the floor and it also cannot pick up big or heavy pieces from the floor. Overall, visually impaired may get this device with limited expectations. It is not a substitute for cleaning by hand. However, if your house doesn't get very dirty, doesn't have much obstructions on floor then you may run this robot as a substitute for cleaning with the broom. It will be good to know if other robot vacuum cleaners have been evaluated by the visually impaired.
