Dear Friends,
*For a Disability-Inclusive Constitution* Greetings on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of India’s independence. As we enter the 75th year, we are planning a campaign to amend provisions contained in Articles 15 & 16 of the Indian Constitution that specify grounds on which discrimination is prohibited. Attached is a Draft proposed to be sent to Members of Parliament requesting that they move/support a Bill to amend the Constitution to provide for explicitly prohibiting discrimination on grounds of disability. Many of us have been raising this demand for quite some time now. This got a boost after the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities also made such a recommendation in October 2019 to the Government of India. We hope that this fructifies in the 75th year of India’s independence. We look forward to your endorsements.
